Dr. Abolfazl Mohammadi, Ph.D, C.Psych
Clinical Psychologist
(he/him/his)
Presenting Concerns: I provide therapy for adults struggling with various difficulties, including:
Anxiety (e.g., social anxiety, generalized anxiety and worry, panic attacks)
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Adjustment Disorder
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Approach: I developed an early interest in psychology in late high school and went on to pursue over ten consecutive years of study and training in the field. From the outset, I was drawn to applying empirically supported approaches to help clients manage anxiety and emotional disorders. Over the course of my career, working across different programs (both outpatient and inpatient, and public and private) and in four languages, I have embraced a culturally sensitive approach to the prevention and treatment of mental health issues.
My therapeutic orientation is primarily rooted in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and its newer implementations, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Metacognitive Therapy (MCT). I also incorporate compassion-focused and mindfulness-based strategies into my approach to treatment. This integrative framework allows me to provide flexible, individualized care while maintaining fidelity to empirically supported treatments.
Training/Experience: I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) in 2011, having started my training in psychology and CBT in 2001. During my predoctoral internship at the Tehran Psychiatric Institute, I worked with diverse client groups in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I then served for 10 years as a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry, providing clinical services, supervising trainees, and conducting research. I am now pleased to support clients in private practice in Ontario, integrating academic, clinical, and research experience into evidence-based care.
